

B. J. Steadman, 66, of Germantown, entered into Heaven September 21, 2012. He was raised in Clarksdale, MS and proudly served for 28 years in the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department. Upon retirement as a Captain, he continued to serve in the Memphis Police Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne and Jack Steadman and his mother-in-law, Claire Bence. He is survived by his wife, Judy Steadman and his son, Michael Jason Steadman and father-in-law, Fred Bence, and many other loving family members and friends and his one and only favorite dog, Tillie. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers-in-law, following NFL football, and listening to music. He often could be found grilling or doing carpentry. He participated in multiple BBQ cooking contests including Memphis in May. He also played the mandolin and harmonica, but more than anything he loved being a proud father of his son, Michael. The family will receive friends Monday evening, September 24, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue. The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 26, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Bartlett. Donations in memory of B. J.
