Charles Christopher Camp, 29, of Southaven, MS, went to be with his Lord on October 21, 2012, after a courageous 14-month battle with an aggressive brain cancer. Christopher, or Chris, was a lifelong member of Minor Memorial United Methodist Church, Youth Director at Hernando United Methodist Church in Hernando, MS for the last 5 years, a former counselor at Camp Lake Stephens in Oxford, MS, a volunteer for the MS United Methodist Disaster Relief, and held positions of leadership in the Senatobia District of the Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church. Chris was a 2001 graduate of Horn Lake High School, and a 2006 graduate of Arkansas State University. Chris is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Ashley Medcalf Camp; his parents, Charles Christian and Jacquelyne Camp; mother and father in law, Nancy Medcalf Hall and Bob Medcalf; grandmother, NeySa McDowell; sister-in-law Mitzi Garrett and brothers-in-law Kevin Garrett and Chris Medcalf; niece and nephews, Alyssa, Kevin, and Jonathon Garrett; aunts and uncles, Bob and Diane McDowell, John E. McDowell, Charlie and Yolanda Martin, Hank and Carol McDowell, and Ray and Angela McDowell; cousins Sean, Matt, Patrick, Jake, Amanda, Miko, and Savannah McDowell, Ryan Arnold, and Chasity Youngman. Chris was an amazing person and devoted husband, son, and friend. He loved the Lord with all of his heart as well as his job at Hernando UMC, where he inspired so many young lives during his life’s journey, especially during his months of illness. Chris was a devoted Christian who has left a legacy at Hernando UMC and will continue to touch the lives of his youth in death as he did in life. His spirit, strength, and trust in God will forever be a testament to all who loved him. Visitation will be Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 3-7 p.m. at Minor Memorial United Methodist Church in Walls, MS. Funeral services will be Monday, October 29, at 1 p.m. at Minor Memorial followed by burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park in Southaven, MS. We would like to thank his wonderful and supportive oncology staff at The West Clinic, Dr. Michael G. Martin and nurse Heather Allen, who fought with us every step of the way.
