Totally without our permission, Charles Fineberg has left this world behind and is riding and roping on another plane. He lived exuberantly for 77 years and by all accounts "did it his way". Making many friends along the trail who agree that he is one of a kind, Charles or Charlie or Charles Harold or Bubba, as he was variously known could be counted on to stand by them always. From Memphis Central High School to some college years at University of Oklahoma and University of Tennessee, he always made friends. He hunted, fished, bull-dogged, calf-roped and traveled with friends for many of them. After years of working at Fineberg Meat Packing Company founded by his Russian born grandfather, he created his own business, Mid-South Subpoena Service where his slogan was "If you can sue them, I can serve them". As a member of the Tennessee Association of Professional Process Servers, he helped to guide and legislate for his profession.
He was an avid member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA]. Throughout his rodeo career, he was able to travel across the United States enjoying what he loved to do, rodeo. He even traveled to Australia where he competed in “The World Cup Rodeo" where he became known as “The Jewish Cowboy”.
Charles is survived by his four daughters: Mindy Davidson, Jodi Stokes (Johnny), Dixie Lindley, and Codee F. Ewing (Battle II); brother, Sam Rhodes (Evelyn of blessed memory); and his sister, Charlotte "Toot" Fineberg-Buchner (Clark). He has five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He leaves behind many dear friends who were considered family and several who called him Uncle Charlie - mostly when involved in mischief. Charles's parents, Dave and Flo Fineberg, who passed away in 1983 and 1982, attended his many sports activities and rodeo events.
In the last months of his life, he befriended a little bunny that lived under a barbecue shed he built in his backyard. On his many recent hospitalizations, he made the family promise to continue to feed carrots to his little bunny who is one more friend who will treasure the memory of Charles Fineberg.
To all of our friends and family, happy trails to you, until we meet again.
