Charles Andrew Upton

Mr. Upton served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era, a chapter of his life marked by steady commitment and duty. He later built a long and respected career with FedEx, retiring as Lead Fuel Farm Operator at the Memphis International Airport—work that reflected his strong ethic, reliability, and the quiet wisdom earned through years of responsibility. In later years, he continued working in security at Saddle Creek in Germantown, remaining purposeful and dependable in all he did.

Those who knew Mr. Upton will remember not only his diligence and sound judgment, but also the lighter moments he brought to everyday life—an understated humor that could ease a room and make the ordinary feel warmer. Away from work, he enjoyed riding his Harley, embracing the simple freedom of the open road. At ease with technology, he often tinkered with computers in his spare time and was a reliable resource for family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Julia Wells Upton; son, Charles Andrew Upton, II (Jen); brother-in-law, Al Wells; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Bentley (David), Lillian Eaves (Richard), Patricia Burns (Lon), and Kathy Paryzek (James); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Meredith Upton and Fred Thomas Upton and brother, Fred Thomas Upton, Jr.

Committal services with military honors will be held on Thursday, September 10 at 9:00 AM, at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Road, Memphis, Tennessee.
