Dr. Clarence Luckey was born August 23, 1953 in Crawfordsville, Arkansas to Mrs Hattie B Luckey & Mr. Sylvester Luckey, Sr. Clarence later moved to Los Angeles, California where he lived with his beloved grandparents, William & Ethyl Luckey and he attended the public school system there.
Clarence went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 following a short illness. Clarence was a fun-loving father, brother, and minister, who loved his family, life and enjoyed playing dominoes with his close friends. He worked many different occupations, but construction was his first love as a young contractor in Los Angeles.
After living most of his life in Los Angeles, Clarence answered the call into the ministry and immediately took up biblical theology studies, where he earned his Master of Divinity degree at Howard University, and his Doctorate from United Theological Seminary. His first pastorate was at Bethel AME (Barstow, CA), then at Allen Chapel AME (Oklahoma City, OK), and Bethel AME (Warren, AR) before retiring from the AME pastorate and moving to Memphis, Tennessee. He recently became an active member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, where he joined the pastoral team under the leadership of Pastor Ashton Alexander and he was an active member of the Sunday School ministry. His big smile, strong will, and infectious laughter will be missed by all who loved him.
Preceding him in death were his two sons Clarence Luckey, Jr. and Zafir M. Luckey, his grandparents, his parents: Hattie B. Gentry, Sylvester Luckey, Sr., stepfather Isaac Gentry, Sr., stepmother Estellar Luckey, sister Evelyn Luckey Pernell, and brothers Derrick Gentry, Sylvester Luckey, Jr., and big brother Dennis Jones.
