Cornelia Varnavas passed away early Thursday morning, September 7, 2018, after spending a day surrounded by family and friends. Cornelia was 90 years old and was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Nick and Katherine, and her husband of 39 years, Andrew. She leaves several nephews and nieces as well as her two sons, Kosta and Jimmy, daughter in law Lisa, and her grandson Andrew. Cornelia grew up in Memphis and attended the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church until 2005 when she moved to Huntsville, AL to be closer to her sons and grandson. She started teaching piano at a relatively young age and continued after she moved to Huntsville until just before her 90th birthday. While there is no way to estimate the number of children she taught over her 70 years, it is clear that this was her gift to the world. Services will include visitation from 4-6pm on Monday afternoon, September 10th, at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave. The funeral will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on Highland at 10am followed by internment at Elmwood cemetery.
