David Lynn Sills, son of Henry Paul Sills and Mary Elizabeth Spicer, was born on November 12, 1955 in Memphis Tennessee. He was the youngest child with Dennis Paul Sills being his older brother. Mr. Sills attended the public schools of Shelby County and graduated from Kingsbury High School. During his formative years, he found his faith becoming a Baptist Christian.
After graduating, he joined the navy serving 8 years of honorable service. Mr. Sills achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class as a noncommissioned officer. His Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) was an aviation mechanic. During his service, Mr. Sills was stationed in Iceland, the Florida Keys, and Memphis. Once his service was completed, he became an electrician. Under his union, he worked on electrical wiring for industrial buildings. He would eventually achieve the status of journeyman in the field.
At home, he was an avid cinephile enjoying a variety of movies and television shows. His favorite was Star Trek which made him a part of the Trekkie fandom. The Star Trek: The Original Series starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy was his favorite. Mr. Sills also enjoyed Lord of the Rings, Deep Space 9, and a variety of science fiction and fantasy stories. He was a nerd through and through.
His nerdy life will forever be celebrated and cherished by his children: Clifton Paul Sills and David Dewayne Sills. They themselves are nerds who continue his legacy. David Lynn Sills, father and nerd, will be sorely missed.
