I met Derrick many years ago at an Air-condition supply store. The first thing I noticed about Derrick was his bright smile and friendly personality.
As we talked, we had much in common. We were small business owners and shared the same skills trade.
Even though this was a brief encounter, I would meet Derrick from time to time in passing. Again it was always the smile and friendly personality.
In the Heating and Air Condition community, and as business owners, we share a common interest, where we conduct business in a mutually respectful way.
Derrick was one of those respected business owners, that will be truly missed.
To Derrick's family we love you and we pray that the God of all comfort recorded at 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, give you the much needed comfort at this difficult time.

I remember when he came to our house to install our units over 10 years ago and he was so nice. He helped us out when ever he could when our units had issues. I can’t believe this and he was just at our home last month. He will be missed. S.I.P.

The world is an much emptier place, since one of its finest souls has passed to his heavenly reward. I have lost a lifelong friend, my brother from another mother, Railey D.
SO many fond memories, he was a person of great accomplishment, of deep and genuine character who helped many peoples, gave sound advice and whose wisdom grew with every experience.
I remember when Derrick was going to school for heating and cooling here in St. Louis, my mom (who called him 'her black son') would set aside a portion of every meal she cooked and put it into tupper ware and into the freezer. Every time Derrick came over she would give him a grocery bag with meals in it. Derrick said "Mom I have food.." and mom said "Yes but when you are going through school you need good balanced meals to keep your mind sharp".
Tons of love, one time Derrick and I were fishing at Suntan beach and a quick storm came through, we RAN to the car and I even outran him! Lightning struck a tree about 40 feet away and we got the hell out of there!
Too many memories to write here, but I am going to write them all down because they are sacred.

I hired Derrick as my facilities director at Lifetime Fitness Health club years ago. Not only was he a great employee, but a man who loved people. He was always smiling, making people feel welcome, and ready & willing to help someone out. You will be missed Derrick! Praying comfort for your family during this time of sadness. R.I.P. My friend.

RIP my friend. I remember the first day we met at Russell in Mr. Anderson's class. You welcomed me to Russell, and invited me over to your house, introducing me to people. We had great times. Sitting in your kitchen talking to your Mom, or at my house doing the same.

You always looked out for people. Checking on my parents, giving me a call to see how I was doing.

God truly took a great person. Thanks for the laughs, and memories.

Derrick was a tremendous part of our office building. I miss seeing him coming in and out of the parking lot, sitting at his strategical placed desk in order to see all traffic coming in and out and sitting in the lobby eating snacks. Derricks best attribute was his tremendous memory. You could meet Derrick 1 time and he remembered everything you ever told him. He often spoke of his family and children and you could tell he loved them dearly. He is greatly greatly missed. Psalm 46:10. Be still and know that I am God.
