

Dora L. Mayes was born to the late Margarie Davis Albert and Joseph Albert, Sr., on January 3, 1945, in Oneida, Arkansas. She went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at 6:50 p.m., in her home in Memphis, Tennessee.
She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Calvin Henry Mayes in June of 1962; to this union, two children were born.
Dora enjoyed sewing, fishing, baking homemade cakes, taking care of her plants, and watching movies and soap operas.
She accepted Christ at an early age at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church. After marriage, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she lived for thirty-five years.
After the death of her husband, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and became a member of New Harvest Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her death. She was a faithful member and loved singing in the choir and was an active member of Sunday School.
Dora L. Mayes was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Henry Mayes; her parents, Joseph Sr. and Margarie Albert; and her brother, Joseph Albert, Jr.
Mrs. Dora L. Mayes leaves to cherish her loving memory, two sons, Jonathan (Julie) Mayes of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Calvin Mayes of Niles, Michigan; two grandchildren, Jonathan L. (Jessica) Mayes of Slidell, Louisiana, and Jonquell A. (Ceirra) Mayes of Virginia Beach, Virginia; five great-grandchildren, Jaleel Mayes of Memphis, Tennessee, Dieonte Mayes & Deveion Mayes of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Jonavan Mayes & Jenesis Mayes of Slidell, Louisiana; three sisters, Betty (Jimmy) Hibbler, Mary Albert and Brenda (Martin) Carruth, all of Memphis, Tennessee; three brothers, Johnny (Nancy) Albert of Marvell, Arkansas, Ellis (Joyce) Albert of Memphis, Tennessee, and James (Fannie) Albert of Royse City, Texas; one aunt, Lillie Mae Coley of Dixmoor, Illinois; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She also leaves a special friend, Mrs. Gracie Littlejohn of Memphis, Tennessee.
