Doris Jean Van Hooser, 92, was born May 30, 1929 to Edwin Lowell Hartman and Bessie McGiness Hartman in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The family later relocated to Memphis, Tennessee where she met her husband Gene Richard Van Hooser. She leaves behind three daughters, Joanne Cox (John) of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Carol Malone (Ed) of Cordova, Tennessee, and Shirley Bringle of Cordova, Tennessee, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a niece Corynne Romine (Michelle Mascaro) of Oak Park, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Richard Van Hooser, daughter Karen Barden, sister Shirley Romine, brother-in-law Martin Romine, and great-granddaughter Courtney Morris. She was a devoted Christian who attended Eudora Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years among other activities in the church. She worked at Peds East as a bookkeeper and had a passion for antiques. She was an avid collector of antique china, silver, and jewelry. One of the highlights of her life was the trip with her sister to Ireland where they discovered more about their family ancestry.
The family will receive friends at a visitation for Doris on Saturday January 29th, 2022 from 12:00 - 2:00PM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119. Funeral services celebrating her life and legacy will immediately follow at 2:00 PM, at the funeral home.
A family graveside service will occur Wednesday February 2nd, 2022, at 12:00 PM, at Elmwood Cemetery, 824 S Dudley St. Memphis, TN 38104.
