Dorothy Lee Deas, age 98, devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Aunt, passed from this life on November 4, 2023. Dorothy was born October 25, 1925 in Ridgeway, TX, the daughter of Calvin and Alice (Tubb) Bishop. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, James Elwood Deas, granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Deas, sister Thelma Ruth McMillon, brother Johnny Bishop, two half-sisters, Nina Faye Stewart and Eva Mae Wallace and half-brother William A Bishop.
She leaves her daughters Carolyn A. Deas and Janice L. Deas of Memphis, TN, son, James E. Deas, Jr. (Janet) and grandson Brian Deas of Arlington, TN, granddaughter Olivia DeStefano of Charlotte, NC, four great-grandchildren, three nieces and three nephews. A devout Christian her entire life, she was a member of Germantown Church of Christ.
In 1943, Dorothy began a lifelong civilian military career at the age of 17 as a messenger assistant with the War Department, Army Air forces in Dallas, TX. In between raising 3 children, her career working for the military spanned over a period of almost 50 years.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 10, from 3:00 - 4:00 at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave. The service will immediately follow visitation. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending memorials to Ave Maria Home, Bartlett, TN or Germantown Church of Christ, Germantown, TN.
