Dorothy Mae Brown Kennedy, age 95, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021. Dorothy was born in Memphis on January 7, 1926. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lurlee Mable Carter Brown; her husband, Oswald Franklin Kennedy, Jr.; her sons, Richard Neal Kennedy and Oswald Franklin Kennedy, III; her stepson, Jimmy Franklin Kennedy; her brothers, Ed Brown, Howard Brown and Carl Brown.
Dorothy graduate from Humes High School in 1944 and went on to attend Rhodes College. She was a loyal and faithful member of Highland Heights United Methodist Church where she sung in the choir until the church no longer existed. Dorothy loved to sing, play the piano and watch the Wheel of Fortune. She worked as a teller at First Tennessee National Bank for 40 years and continued working until her health failed her.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Anna) David Kennedy; her daughter-in-law, Nina Kennedy; her grandchildren, Dalton Kennedy, Ethan Kennedy, Sarah Kennedy Pruett, Ashleigh Kennedy Sax, Austin Kennedy, Elizabeth Chambliss, Karen Kennedy Ramirez; her great-grandchildren, Oliver, Mason, Harrison, Bridgette, Leilani and Avery.
A graveside service for Dorothy will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 10:00 AM until11:00 AM at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road, Memphis, TN 38134.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
