Douglas was a lifetime member of Lindenwood Christian Church. He graduated from Central High School in 1967 and attended Memphis State Universty. Douglas acquired several Bachelor degrees and a Masters of Arts in Teaching, a Master of Arts in Economics. He was working on his Doctorate of Economics when he started working for the Corp of Engineers.
He retired on April 30, 2014 after 31 years of service. He served in several different capacities as an Economist and then worked for the Real Estate Division as an appraiser. He wrote articles for the RiverWatch as a Movie Reviewer, and was President of the Castle Club for 18 years. His co-workers had many words of praise for his work ethics and the friendships that were formed over the years. As stated by one co-worker and echoed by many others, “Doug was such a wonderful employee and friend! His generosity and hard work with the Castle Club enabled hundreds of us to enjoy Engineers’ Day, Easter Egg hunts, etc. He always had a smile on his face and did all he could to support our work (economics and real estate). He was one of the great ones!!”
Douglas is preceded by his parents, a brother Richard, and a brother in law, David H. Eck. He is survived by his sister Kathy Young Eck, Enid, OK., brother Walter A. Young.Saulsbury, TN. and special friend, Demetrius (Shell) Mitchel, Memphis, TN. Nephews Dave and Liz Eck, Brian and Traci Eck, Atlanta, GA, Mark and Kelsey Eck, San Antonio, TX., Scott and Trish Young, Saulsbury, TN, and Neal and Joyce Ann Young, Conway, AR. Neices, Deborah Eck, Stillwater, OK, and Schere Young, Brownville, TN. Also several great nieces and nephews.
