Dr. Edward J. Knox, age 88, of Germantown, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Ed was born March 6, 1933. He is survived by daughters; Ginny Alter (Eric) and Julia Putnam (Chuck); eight grandchildren: Walt Krueger (Katie), Alex Krueger (Brittany), Julia Krueger Lipsey (James), Kelsey Alter, James Putnam, Michaela Putnam, Jack Putnam and India Putnam; and six great-granddaughters; Dakota, Savannah, Anabelle, Chenoa, Rose and Hazel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian A. and Corinne Parsons Knox; his sister, Margaret Hickerson and two brothers, Joe and Jack Knox; great-grandson, Everest Lipsey; and his loving wife of 59 years, Martha Burns Knox.
Ed was the consummate pastor and dedicated his life to serving his God and faithfully caring for the sheep he was given to shepherd in his sixty years of ministry. After graduating from Tennessee Tech, he entered the military, serving in the army during peace time. During this time he felt God's call to enter the ministry. He met and married Martha in 1960, and they became partners in life as well as ministry. Together they served churches in Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee for the next fifty years. In retirement they served in an interim capacity in five churches in Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas. In addition to his ministry, he often entertained family and friends with his guitar-playing and singing. He was a gifted writer and for many years he wrote regularly for "The Christian Observer." He was a lover of poetry and great quotes, and he often wove these into his sermons. His ability to connect with people and make each one feel special was legendary. We will always remember his sense of humor, his generous heart, and the way he embraced life and all of us. The light of his presence among us will be sorely missed, but we trust that, as he taught us, we will be reunited in Eternity.
