Born September 27, 1928 and passed away on January 21, 2023 at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip Joseph Donovan and Arda Louise Donovan. Edie, as she was know by her family, had four brothers: Phillip, Arlee, John and Ronald Donovan and one sister Eldora Donovan Hansen.
Edie lovingly cared for sister during the last four years of Eldora's life. In Edie's last few years her caregivers and companions were Eldora's five children: John and Don Hansen, Patti Pettit, Cindy Bethea and Phyllis Grant. She also leaves to mourn her numerous nieces and nephews. Edie loved her family very much and was so proud of them.
Edie was in many ways a woman ahead of her time. She graduated from Southside High School and went to attend the University of Memphis in the 1940's. She worked in the business world until her mid seventies. At one point she even owned and ran her own business. She was a dog lover who spoiled her pets especially her Yorkie, Eddie. She often shared her chicken McNuggets with him. Eddie passed away in August of 2022 at the age of 15 1/2.
Edie was fun loving and witty. One of her favorite things to do was go out to eat with her sister Eldora and eventually Eldora's five children joined them on Saturdays. Her varied interests included collecting crosses for her walls and cutting her lawn on her big riding mower well into her 80's. She would proudly tell anyone including her doctors that she had never had a cigarette or a drink in her whole life. Edie was a lifelong Memphian and loved everything about Memphis. Edith Ruby will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
