
Elaine Alderson Wardle, 89, passed away at The Village at Germantown May 10, 2016. She was born in Austin, MN, where she also grew up playing the piano and oboe throughout her childhood and teenage years in various church and school events. In 1948 she graduated from Wheaton College, married William Henry Wardle (Bill), moved to Memphis, and became a member of First Evangelical Church. As an active member, she sang in the choir, played the piano, served as President of The Women’s Auxiliary, and mentored younger women. For many years, she taught Child Evangelism classes throughout the city and tutored at the Neighborhood Christian Center. She is survived by her husband (Bill) of 68 years; children Janet Wilaine Wardle of Germantown, TN, William Henry Wardle, Jr (Peg) of Trussville, AL, and Christine Wardle Taylor (Tim) of Memphis TN; grandchildren Nikki Wardle Symasek (Mike), William Jason Wardle (Amanda), and Michael Scott Wardle (Jessica); eleven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday May 13, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at First Evangelical Church. The funeral service will be Saturday May 14, 2016 at 1 p.m. at First Evangelical Church.
The family requests memorials be made to Child Evangelism or First Evangelical Church.
