Elaine Fortner, 88, of Lakeland, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025. She was born on November 28, 1936, in Memphis to the late Oscar Robert and Zula Sal Hall. Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmore Fortner, and her brother, Oscar Robert Hall, Jr.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Elaine’s life was, and continues to be, a testament to inner strength, love, kindness, and family. As a deacon’s wife and a long time member of Bellevue Baptist Church, her love for the Lord Jesus Christ was lifelong and unyielding.
She is survived by her children, Brad Fortner (Teresa), Melanie Fortner, and Russ Fortner (Kayo); her cherished grandchildren, Benjamin, Reagan, Isabelle, and Sierra, her fur babies BamBam, and JiJi; as well as numerous extended family and friends who will miss her warmth and wisdom.
Elaine had an unwavering commitment to those she loved. She was known for her compassion, generosity, and the joy she brought to every gathering. She was an avid animal lover with total dedication to a large number of pets she cared for throughout her life. Whether through simple conversations or thoughtful gestures, she left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Memphis Humane Society.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, January 20 at Memphis Funeral Home in the Memphis Suite, located at 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN. A service will follow at 2:00 PM, with interment at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.
Elaine’s spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
