

Eris Elizabeth Newman, age 67 of Horn Lake MS, entered into glory on Friday, May 31, 2013. Born July 14, 1945 in Memphis to the late Claude Baxter James, Jr., and Estella May Bolly James, she was preceded in death by her husband James M Newman, and her brother, Claude B. James. Among those in mourning and celebration are one daughter, Reba M. Albro (John); one son, Rev. Dennis C. Hermerding (Jane); one sister, Dr. Katherine James; 8 grandchildren, Nathan, Elizabeth Ann, Gracie, Owen, and Lily Albro, and Olivia, Jeshua, and Lydiamay Hermerding; and 3 close cousins, Grace Emogene Howell (Frank), Doris Cagle, and Orma Simpson (Mike). She was an office administrator and also an experienced small business owner who was well known as the “granola lady” at Memphis area farmers’ markets. She is best remembered as a devoted wife, dedicated mother, wonderful grandmother, loving sister and cousin, loyal friend, and a fruitful and faithful servant of Christ. She was very involved in home bible studies, women’s ministries, foreign missions, and intense personal commitment to those around her. Appropriately referred to as “Precious” by many of the countless lives she touched, with her passing a rich life of earthly service was concluded. She will truly be missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5 at Christ the King Lutheran Church located at 5296 Park Avenue, with funeral services officiated by Rev. Mark Goble on Thursday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m., also at Christ the King. Burial will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens. Memorials may be sent to World Outreach Ministries, care of Michael and Pearl Oh, or to a Christian charity of one’s choice.
