Evelyn Thompson Palmer, age 91, passed away on Good Friday, April 6. She was preceded in death by her brother James Thompson, sister Doris Thompson Lake and husband Willis Wendell Palmer. She was a loving mother and grandmother who never met a person whom she didn't delight. Ever in great spirits, she was always willing to put a smile on your face. She lived a legacy that included such accomplishments as: Past President of Stage Set, Duration Club, Dur-Arts; Vice President of Memphis Opera Guild; Board Member of Memphis Symphony League, Josephine Circle, and Brooks Museum League. She was also a member of the English Speaking Union, Four Seasons, Memphis Cotton Wives, Decorative Arts Trust, River Oaks Garden Club, Second Presbyterian Church and Choir, Chi Omega Fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, Beethoven Club, and the Salvation Army Auxiliary. Her organ playing delighted patrons of Pete and Sam’s Restaurant on Park Avenue during its earliest years. An avid traveler, she and her late husband had been all over the globe, experiencing nearly everything the world had to offer. After her husband’s retirement, she and Wendell directed tours for the seniors’ program at church as well as other charitable organizations. For the last three years, she lived at the Village at Germantown where she met so many wonderful people and thoroughly enjoyed all of the caring staff that assisted her there. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Montesi, son-in-law Fred, and her grandchildren Nikki and Eric of Memphis, TN; a niece, Pat Goedecke and great-niece Mendy. Services will be held at Memphis Funeral Home, Poplar Chapel, with the visitation at 2 p.m. and memorial service at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 9th.
