Farries “Demarries” began her homegoing journey on March 28, 2022 at the age of 75 but prior to her sunset, she shared an incredible presence with the world.
Farries, also lovingly known as Demarries and Mary, was an amazingly caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. The eldest of nine siblings. She was born in Oxford, MS to parents Esaw and Farriestein Herod. Although her family roots were deeply planted in Oxford, Farries spent her childhood years and most of her life in Memphis, TN. She was a proud graduate and active member of Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1966. She later attended York College in Nebraska, where she majored in Sociology.
She was a strong woman of faith who served as a member at Southside Church of Christ, Norris Road and Midtown Church of Christ through her life. She instilled a sense of faith, family and service in her two children (Joseph and Netra) and her five grandchildren (Kyle, Kelsey, Jalon, Aaron and Joseph, II).
Farries’ careers led her to become a leader, teacher, and business owner.
She positively impacted many young people from teaching at Southside Preschool to Administration at LeMoyne-Owen College. She also owned and operated Children First Daycare for more than a decade in the historic Orange Mound Community. The last chapter of her professional career led to her making an impressive impact at FedEx in the Expediting Department for 31 years.
After retirement from FedEx, she found another love and a great group of friends at the Orange Mound Community and Senior Center. Farries excelled both at line dancing and tap dancing with the Orange Mound Energizers and Tappers as well as with Memphis Finest Line Dance Krewe.
Ms. Trotter was an active advocate, supporter and influencer for the Orange Mound community and the city of Memphis through her actions, time and philanthropy dedication.
Farries was blessed with a large, fun, loving and close-knit family. Sunday dinners, holidays, special occasions and family reunions to name a few; were times where Farries’ home was the epicenter of family gatherings and bonds. You could always depend on her to make a family connection and have the phone number of a relative or family friend. You didn’t remain a stranger long after meeting Farries D..
Farries Demarries Trotter leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, integrity, life-long learning and a sense of adventure that her loved ones will remember forever!
A memorial service for Farries will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at M. J. Edwards Funeral Home, 1165 Airways Blvd., Memphis, Tennessee 38114.
