

Frances Evelyn Oldfield Guinn, age 92. Born August 28, 1920 in Van Zandt County, Texas. Her family moved to Waco, Texas in the 1930’s where she graduated from Waco High School in 1939. She met her husband, George William Guinn, in Waco; they were married in 1946. They were married 32 years until his death in 1978. The Guinns raised their three children in Waco and all attended Baylor University. Fran was an excellent homemaker, seamstress, and a gracious hostess. Her life changed dramatically when George died at age 60. She went to work at a local cleaners in Waco doing alterations, and delighted her customers with her sweet smile and quick laugh until she retired on her 75th birthday. Fran moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1999 to be closer to her family. She was an active member of Highland Street Church of Christ, an avid bridge player at Fairway Towers, a volunteer at the Church Health Center, and loyal sports fan for the Baylor Bears and Memphis Tigers. She loved working jigsaw puzzles and knitting baby blankets for family and friends. Fran loved her family, her many friends and neighbors and was a joy to all who knew her. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 28, 2013; she had looked forward to joining George for thirty-five years. Fran is survived by her two sons, Steve (Pam) and Gary (Gwynne), her daughter, Gail (Russell) Turner, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation is Monday April 29, at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Avenue from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Service will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 3:00 pm at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Avenue, Poplar Chapel. Graveside service and burial will be Thursday in Waco, Texas at 1:00 pm, May 2, Waco Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Highland Church of Christ in Memphis, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Baylor University, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
