Annette, a lifelong reader and crafter, worked as a legal assistant until her retirement to Tuscaloosa AL in 2007. She was involved in the National Association of Legal Support Professionals, serving on councils in Mississippi and Arizona, including a term as Chapter President. She was also met monthly with her friends at the Red Hat Society of Tuscaloosa and classmates from Tuscaloosa High (Go Black Bears).
Annette had suffered a major heart attack on August 7th and sadly could not recover. She was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her death. Annette is preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Frances Jones, and her husband, Jerry Wyatt Carter. She is survived by her daughter, Meredith Carter Zuege, and son, Steven Wyatt Carter, along with their families: son in Law, Bryne Zuege ; granddaughter, Brooks Jones and her husband Bracken Jones; great-granddaughter, Harper Mae Jones; daughter in Law, Amber Carter; and granddaughter, Mary Whatley.
Annette’s strength of conviction and big personality made an impact everywhere she lived. While she has resided in Yuma AZ, Jackson MS, and most recently Memphis TN, she always considered Tuscaloosa AL, where she grew up, her home.
In lieu of flowers, Annette would like to be remembered through your generous donations to the West Alabama Food Bank, helping to ensure the children of her hometown don't go hungry.
Annette’s final resting place will be next to her husband at the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery in West Blockton AL. A memorial service will be held sometime in future in Tuscaloosa. For more information, please contact Bryne Zuege at [email protected].
