Franklin P. "Pete" Dugan, 95, of Memphis, died May 3, 2013. He was the former owner of American Air Products and a longtime member of Merton Avenue Baptist Church and a current member of Family Tabernacle Church of God. A graduate of Tech High in 1937 and a WWII Navy veteran. After discharge from the Navy he gave his time willingly to many great causes. He was a volunteer with the VA Hospital from 1946-1996, a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. Pete's company, American Air Products, adopted Hollywood Elementary School for approximately 12 years. He donated generously to his church, VFW, Odd Fellows, various community projects and continued support to the Boy Scouts of America. Pete was 10th District Commander for the VFW and served as Judge Adovocate for VFW Post 4916. He was a trustee on the board of directors for Porter Leath Orphanage, past Grand Master for the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows and a sixty year member of the Masonic Order. In 2004 he was awarded the Jefferson Award for Public Service. His most recent passion started in 2001 when he began developing Veterans Plaza Memorial in Overton Park to honor each soldier in Shelby County who made the ultimate sacrifice from WWI thru Afghanistan. His love of country fed his zeal to finish this project. This memorial will forever live to educate and remember that our freedom is and was not free. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janie V. Dugan and his son, Dennis Dugan. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Viki Dugan and grandchildren, Sean Dugan, Casey Dugan (Tracy) and Shannon Eavenson (Shawn) and great-grandchildren, Carter Eavenson and Presley Cate Dugan and his companion, Sue Weaver, his brother-in-law, Moe Rodgers. The family will receive friends Monday, May 6, beginning at 10 a.m. until the service at 12 p.m., all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue.
