Dr. Frederick Norman Stringer was born in Bell Union, Indiana on April 16, 1926 and he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II before moving to Tennessee where he studied optometry at the Southern College of Optometry. In service to his profession, Dr. Stringer took leadership roles with the Tennessee Optometric Association and trained young professionals in optometry to ensure the blessing of healthy vision to countless Tennesseans.
Dr. Stringer enjoyed sixty-nine wonderful years of marriage with the late Mrs. Carmen Chapman Stringer; their union produced two children, Mrs. Patricia Stringer Luttrell and Mr. Fred Stringer, who blessed Dr. Stringer with four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who lovingly call him “Pops.” As a fan of Memphis Tigers basketball, Dr. Stringer rooted for his beloved Tigers throughout the years through thick and thin, engaging with the Tigers Rebounder Club to further his support.
Dr. Frederick Norman Stringer was active for many years with the Tennessee Walking Horse Association, served in leadership with the Kiwanis Club, and dutifully worked as an ordained deacon in his churches – all exemplary and showing the tremendous character of this civic-minded community servant.
