Gary Alan Baker was born and passed away in Memphis, Tennessee—a city he loved deeply and proudly called home. He is survived by his son, Eric Baker, and daughter, Nikki Baker. Gary now rests alongside his mother, father, and brother.
Born and raised in Memphis, Gary graduated from Memphis State in December 1981. After a brief time living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he returned to Memphis, knowing he was a Memphian through and through. Gary began his career in transportation with UPS as a package car driver before joining Federal Express, where he dedicated over three decades of service.
A lover of nature, he had a lifelong passion for fishing and being outdoors. He was an exceptional billiards player and enjoyed many nights at the pool halls with his friends. Known for his generosity, kindness, and unique sense of humor, Gary brought joy to those around him with his storytelling, funny faces, and silly voices.
Above all, Gary was most proud of his children, Eric and Nikki. He never missed an opportunity to share their accomplishments and loved them more than anything. Eric and Nikki will forever cherish the way their father shared his love of Memphis with them—always offering bits of trivia and stories about the city. Memphis will forever make them feel a little closer to their father.
Gary’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at visitation on Friday, January 9 from 12:00 PM until the memorial service at 1:30 PM, at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119.
