Genell F. Hauser, age 85, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer and kidney disease. She was born March 11, 1937 in Moscow, Tennessee. Genell moved to Memphis when she was 13 years old. She graduated from Humes High School and was two years behind Elvis. Shortly after high school, she met the love of her life, Fred, and they married on January 5, 1957. She became a beautician and worked for a short while at the current Beauty Shop Restaurant location. After her daughter was born, she began to work out of her home and had a loyal clientele who weekly came for hair appointments.
In the weeks leading to her passing, she was so grateful to have so many family and friends come see her and say their goodbyes. However, this is not goodbye. Genell was an adamant believer in her Christian faith and knows that she will see everyone again.
Genell was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Feathers and Vallie Sanders; her beloved sister, Vivian Welch; and her nephew, Douglass Welch, who she truly adored. Genell is survived by her husband of 66 years, Fred Hauser; her daughter, Ginger Hauser; and her son, Joe Hauser (Sara Hall). She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Richard, Andrew, and Alice Cate Hauser. If you knew Ginny, you certainly know how much she absolutely adored her grandchildren. She also leaves many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Genell was certainly the matriarch of the family. If any family member (immediate or extended) needed anything, she was there to support them unconditionally. Along with spending time with family, she loved Tiger Basketball, visiting Tunica, going to estate and carport sales, and eating at any Piccadilly restaurant.
The family will receive friends at visitation on Saturday, January 14 beginning at 9:00 AM with funeral services at 10:00 AM, at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Memphis Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a charitable contribution to a charity or house of worship of your choice.
