George was born in San Francisco, California, on November 6, 1940, the eldest of four boys born to George John Gorohoff and Mary Anne Seaking Gorohoff Zupo. He was a longtime resident of Vacaville, California, and graduated from Vacaville High School in 1958 and went on to earn degrees in both Business Administration and Criminal Justice from Sacramento State after completing his military duty.
On December 31, 1963, he married Sharon Meyer. Together they raised three children: Deanne Williams, George "Wally" Gorohoff, and Alyssa Potter.
Throughout his life, George held several different occupations. During his first year of college, he worked in retail at a sporting goods store. He later joined Basic Vegetable Products, where he advanced to a supervisory position before enlisting in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service as a Naval Reservist in 1961. He served two years of active duty as a Yeoman III on the U.S.S. Salmon and four years in the reserves. George returned to Vacaville in 1965 with his wife and newborn daughter and resumed his career at Basic Vegetable Products. During the following ten years, he and Sharon welcomed their son and another daughter into the family.
In October 1971, George began his career as a Correctional Officer at the California Medical Facility (CMF) in Vacaville. Through dedication and hard work, he rose to the rank of Correctional Counselor. During this time, he also became a Notary Public and, through the Correctional Officers Association, served as President of the Correctional Officers Benefit Trust.
George and Sharon later established an income tax preparation business, which they successfully operated for 38 years before retiring. In retirement, George enjoyed wine tasting in Sonoma & Napa, traveling, fishing, golfing, and socializing with fellow members of Sons in Retirement (SIRS) chapter in Vacaville, Ca.
George was preceded in death by his father, George John Gorohoff; his mother, Mary Anne Zupo; and his stepfather, Samuel Zupo.
He is survived by his children, Deanne Williams, George "Wally" Gorohoff, and Alyssa Potter; his brothers, Charles Gorohoff, James Zupo, and Robert Zupo; his sisters, Anne Marie Duck and Rosalie Macke; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
