

George W. Holden, of Ashland, Mississippi, passed away at age 89 on March 25, 2025. He was born February 22, 1936 to the late Isaac Thaniel Holden and Vallie Louvona Freeman in the Elsberry Mountains in Dallas, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents Isaac and Vallie Holden, his infant son John Phillip Holden, brothers Hannan Holden, (Troyt) Jay Holden, Isaac Holden Jr., and (Carey) Wyatt Holden; and sisters Glesty Holden, Etta Ragsdale, Ellie Benson, Omer Blalock, Minnie Lankford, Vennie Tant Lankford, Martha Fennell St. Aubin, Zannie Muse, and Betty Elizabeth Holden Adair. He is survived by his daughter Wanda Dondeville, his son Stan Holden (Patte), and his son Jeff Holden (Marian), eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Herman Holden and numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members.
George had a great love of photography and gardening, as well as canning all of the delicious fruits of his labor. George was an auto mechanic by trade and always had a love for his craft. He enjoyed cars and motorcycles, especially the fast ones, his whole life. George had a great sense of humor and could laugh until he cried on a regular basis. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Family asks that he be remembered for the joy he brought to others in life and not the sadness of his death.
George had a sincere respect for those who served this great country, so the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be donated to Wounded Warriors Family Support.
A celebration of George's life will be held on July 19th, 2025 at Benson Funeral Home located at 309 Hardee St. Dallas, GA. 30132. Visitation will take place from 9:30am till the start of the service at 10am. A graveside service will follow at New Caanan Baptist Church located at 3147 Atlanta Hwy, Dallas, GA. 30132.
