

GEORGE E. ‘’Pop’’ TRENT, 80, of Germantown, passed away May 11, 2013 at his home. George is survived by his wife, Dianne Trent and daughters, Michelle (Wayne) Nemeth and Melissa (Chuck) Bates as well as grandchildren, Hunter, Kelsey, Hannah and Hayley and mother-in-law, Virginia Cornette. George was the son of a Baptist minister. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean era and had a long and distinguished professional career in hospital administration. Having begun his working career at Eastman Kodak, he soon took up an opportunity to switch careers and manage hospitals. Eventually he built HCA’s very first hospital, was the Administrator of the School of Medicine at Vanderbilt University and culminated his career as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Methodist Hospitals. George also served as chairman of the Tennessee Hospital Association and was a life fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He was active in his community and served as a member and officer of his local Gideon camp and a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue, Tuesday, May 14. Visitation will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with Funeral Services at 1 p.m. Burial will be in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
