

Gerald M. Campbell, 92, of Gulfport, MS. passed away Wednesday May, 8 at the Veterans Hospital, Gulfport. He was a veteran, having served in the Navy during WWII. It was the invasion of Normandy on 6 June, 1944, and Gerald Campbell was there. Captain Vasquez presented the belated Meritorious Service Medal and Citation, for Gerald's bravery above and beyond the call of duty during the invasion of Normandy. Gerald was born to the late Guy and Bernice Wells Campbell of the Sidonia/Sharon communities, 19th District of Weakley County. He grew up on a 150 acre farm, NE of Sidonia. He helped his Dad on the farm, but never enjoyed farming. However he did enjoy Square Dancing, and traveled across the country to attend their conventions after retiring from Monsanta in St. Louis. Gerald attended the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (Now Sidonia Baptist Church) and when he was 14 years old, during a revival meeting he professed faith in Jesus Christ. Years later he moved his membership to St. Louis, MO, and then to Highland Heights Baptist, Memphis. Gerald was preceded in death by one son, Ronald, and one brother William Dale. He is survived by one son, Gary T. Campbell (Candy), grandson, Ian, and one grandaughter, Kristain; two great-grandchildren, one foster son, Mike Higgs (Jamie); his surviving brother, Robert “Bobby” (Ann), of Collierville will conduct the Funeral Service; sisters: Mary Wright, Jackson, Ruth Smith, Martin, Jean Mathis, Decatur, AL, Norma Jackson, Memphis, Joyce Perkins, Germantown, along with many nieces, and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. The family will receive friends at Family Funeral Care, 4923 Summer Ave, Memphis from 10 to 12 and the funeral service will follow.
