

Born on March 5, 1943, in Memphis, Gordon was the son of the late John and Mary Whitaker. He was also preceded in death by his sister and two brothers.
Gordon lived a full and meaningful life rooted in service, community, and family. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the United States Air Force. He was a devoted Boy Scout leader, a longtime volunteer with WKNO and as an election official, and a faithful usher at Theatre Memphis. A passionate supporter of the Memphis Tigers, he rarely missed a chance to cheer them on.
He graduated as part of the first class from Oakhaven High School in 1961 and was a dedicated member of LaBelle Haven Baptist Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi, where he sang bass in the choir. Gordon had a joyful spirit, which shone through each holiday season when he played Santa Claus for Overpark Elementary and La Petite Daycare. He also loved camping and spending time in the great outdoors.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Caren Whitaker; his children, Travis Whitaker (Racheal) and Caren Hill; and his cherished grandchildren, Skylar Whitaker and Whitney Whitaker. He is also survived by his brother, Randy Whitaker; nieces, Michelle Resendez and Teresa Wilson; nephews, Jack Whitaker and Jamie Whitaker; and his sister-in-law, Rhoda Whitaker.
Gordon will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to those he loved and the community he served.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, October 6 at LaBelle Haven Baptist Church 4800 MS-305, Olive Branch, MS. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM.
