Hugh Oliver Higginbotham, Jr., passed away January 23, 2019. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a former teacher at St. Anne Highland and St. Michael Catholic Church as well as former principal at St. Anne Highland, where he was also a parishioner. Mr. Higginbotham taught at Christian Brothers High School, assisted Dr. Demere at Memphis State University and taught genealogy research at the main library in Memphis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Oliver Higginbotham, Sr. and Mary Sullender Higginbotham.
He is survived by four sisters, Joy (Curtis) Maclin, Marilee Whitten, Ruby Dorris and Kathie Higginbotham; two brothers, Samuel Higginbotham and William (Susan) Higginbotham; seven nieces, nine nephews and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews; great-great nieces and great-great nephews. He was Godfather to all of them.
The family will receive friends on Sunday January 27 from 2-4 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Chapel, Memphis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday January 28, 2019 at 2 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 706 S Highland Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38111.
In lieu of flowers gifts in memory of Mr. Higginbotham may be offered to the charity of the donor’s choice.
