Hugh Darrell Waldrop, age 92, of Bartlett, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023. He was born August 11, 1930, in Jackson, Mississippi to Dalton and Ruth Waldrop. He was the oldest of five children, grew up on a family farm in Pontotoc County, Mississippi and was a constant source of strength to those he loved. He joined the U.S. Air Force at an early age, and served with his brother Mac - both flying on the same B-29. He was intensely proud to be a military veteran and dearly loved serving his country.
He was a faithful and loyal employee and retired from BF Goodrich after many years of service as a warehouse manager in several different cities throughout his career. After retirement, he worked as a service writer at Bartlett Tire. Additionally, he was a very talented woodworker, turning pens and building detailed replicas of tractors and wagons.
A dedicated husband and father, he had profound influence on his family and friends and was widely known as a man of strong faith. He was a member of Raleigh Church of Christ and later served as an elder at Sycamore View. At the time of his death he was a member of Bartlett Woods. He boldly shared his faith in Christ with many he met and positively impacted their lives through his witness and example.
Hugh is survived by his children, Hugh Michael Waldrop (Laura Keefe) and Jenne Michelle Zeip (Rick); and siblings, Virginia Stephens, Mac Waldrop, R. J. Waldrop, Jean Hopson; and uncle Collins Waldrop. He was preceded in death by his wives, Fallie Modell Michael Waldrop and Berdine Kizer Waldrop; and his daughter Sherri Leigh Waldrop; and his sister Rudell Graham.
The family would like to thank Caring Companions for the constant and unfailing love and support shown to him during the last years of his life. We can never thank you enough and will be eternally grateful. We also would like to acknowledge the many faithful friends who visited him and were constants in his life up until the very end.
The family will receive friends at a visitation Wednesday, May 10 from 11:00 AM until the funeral service at 12:00 NOON, at Bartlett Woods Church of Christ, 7900 Old Brownsville Road, Arlington, TN 38002. A graveside committal service will immediately follow at Memphis Memory Gardens.
