

IONE GOFF CRISTIL died June 12, 2013, at Little Creek Sanitarium in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was 94 years old. Born in Oakdale, LA, she moved to Memphis, TN during the depression. She graduated from what is now the University of Memphis. Known to a generation of children as “Miss Ione” she founded and taught at Woodland Presbyterian Kindergarten until her retirement in 1983. After the death of her husband, Harold, she moved to Knoxville in 1996 to be with her family. She made many friends and enjoyed her last years there. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Cristil, parents, Marvin and Ethel Goff, brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Anita Goff. She is survived by her children, Susan and Peter Kohler, Anita and George Dinwiddie, Patti Cristil and Jimmy Jackson; her grandchildren, Michael Finlay, Anna and Martha Dinwiddie; brothers and sisters-in-law Jack Cristil, Mimi Lapides, Sam and Zelda Esgro, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorials may be made to Woodland Presbyterian Church or Woodland School, 5217 Park Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119, or to Little Creek Sanitarium, 1811 Little Creek Lane, Knoxville, TN 37922. The family will receive friends on June 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar, service will follow at 7 p.m. Graveside service at 10 a.m., June 18 at Memorial Park Cemetery.
