James Alsobrook, 78, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on July 8, 2026. Born on December 11, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee to John Lee Alsobrook and Genea Mae Ross Alsobrook. James lived a life of steadfast service, quiet strength, and devotion to his family, faith, and community.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, James served his country in Vietnam with honor and courage. After returning home, he continued to lead with humility and purpose in civilian life. He was a graduate of Memphis State University and a standout track athlete at Melrose High School, where his discipline and determination first took root—qualities that shaped him throughout his life.
James married the love of his life, Joredia Alsobrook, and together they shared 50 years of marriage marked by unwavering partnership and love. He was a devoted father to his son, Jeremy Alsobrook (Lindsay), and his daughter, Jade Alsobrook. He adored his grandchildren, Harper and Monet, who brought him endless joy. He was also a devoted Memphis State Tiger alum and fan, who followed the football and basketball programs very closely. James was an active member of The Church of the Living God, where he served on the board of trustees for many years. Faith guided him, and he was active in his church and community for as long as he was physically able—always showing up to help, to listen, and to serve.
Originally from Memphis, James spent the last decade of his life in Chattanooga, where he found deep community with his family close by. James is survived by his beloved wife, Joredia; his son, Jeremy, and daughter-in-law, Lindsay; his grandchildren, Harper and Monet; his daughter, Jade; his siblings; and many other family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
