James lost both hands in a railroad accident as a young man but never let that stop him from leading an active life! He moved 'to the country' with his wife and daughter in 1960. When he was not selling parts for NAPA, he enjoyed horseback riding at the Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club, hunting, and yard work. He was also an active member of First Evangelical Church for over 40 years serving as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He attended the mens' luncheons and he and his wife enjoyed the LLL senior group programs and trips.
His active life would not have been possible without his devoted wife Jessie who passed away in September of 2007. He was also predeceased by his mother and father, Marcella and George Clifton, and by his two brothers, Tom Clifton and Billy Clifton. He is survived by his only child, Jamie Scholik (Chris).
Chris and Jamie are thankful to his devoted caregiver, Mrs. Tristan Dillard (Erica), cousin Gwen Andrews, appreciated for her availability to help us anytime, former caregiver Mrs. Ricardo Reynaga (Teresita) who cared for him with love, and cousin Jean Kirk who hosted a number of memorable birthday parties for him beginning at age 90.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. in the chapel at First Evangelical Church on Monday, October 1. The memorial service will follow. A private family burial will be held earlier. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent for support of missionaries at First Evan.
