Jim attended school in Eldora and was a graduate of Eldora High School. He also attended Ellsworth College, where he met Judy Simpson of Iowa Falls. The two married in 1961. Judy and Jim had four sons: David, Jeffrey S., Steven, and Trent, who preceded him in death in 2004.
Early in his career, Jim went to work for J.I. Case Company and became an auditor. This led to later accounting positions with Food Rite and Stepherson’s Big Star in Memphis, where he worked for 27 years before retiring.
Jim was a member of Macon Road Christian Church. He enjoyed horse racing, cheering on the Memphis Tigers, and spending weekends fishing at Spring River.
Jim leaves behind his brother, Leon (Carol) Lamer; nephews Monte and Mark; and niece Mechiele. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Iowa Falls, whom he loved dearly.
Jim also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren, including Lauren, Chris, Brent, Kristen, Jeffrey, Addison, Michael, and Isabella, as well as three great-grandchildren.
Jim spent his final months living with his grandson, Brent Lamer, where he enjoyed attending lacrosse games, helping with Brent’s golf ball business, and, as he liked to say, “eating like a king.”
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Lindenwood Christian Church on Saturday, September 19. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
