James Edward May, Sr., 92, of Memphis, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. He was preceded in death wife, Mary May, parents, H.G. May and Viola Mae Smith May, and a brother, D.T. May. Mr. May is survived by a daughter, Ann Jenkins (Ed) of Philadelphia, PA, a son, Jim May (Betty) of Southaven, MS, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Ann May Ragsdale of Germantown, TN. Mr. May served proudly in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He owned Service Sign Company in Memphis for many years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Memphis College of Art, his alma mater, in Mr. May’s name. The family cordially invites friends to share remembrances of Mr. May on Wednesday, December 28th from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The funeral will commence at ten o’clock in the morning on December 29th also at the funeral home. The committal will follow at Forest Hill South.
