

J.D. McCollum was born in Sherman, MS November 13, 1922 and passed away December 24, 2016. He was preceded in his death by his first wife, Marguerite Steger McCollum and his 2 brothers, Everette McCollum, Eugene McCollum, and 1 sister, Cletus McCollum Bryant.
He is survived by his son, David McCollum (Beverly) of North Little Rock, AR and his daughter, Sharon McCollum Hart (Porter) of Millington, TN. 3 grandchildren: Leslie Hart of Memphis, TN, Katelyn Park (Bailey) of Bartlett, TN and Gavin McCollum of North Little Rock, AR. He also leaves his wife, Gladys Raines McCollum of Memphis, TN, her two children, Barney Raines, and Janis Raines Leoncavallo (Paul) and her two grandchildren and one great grandson.
Mr. McCollum “Mac” was a member of the Greatest Generation, serving in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. After the war, he was stationed at the Naval Base in Millington, TN and served as a Disbursing Officer. Following his retirement, he worked at Peoples Bank in Millington for many years.
He was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church for many years and is a member of Leawood Baptist Church where he was Chairman of Deacons several times and served on many committees, taught Sunday School and enjoyed driving the church bus on many Senior Adult trips.
When he was younger, he would love to go fishing and enjoyed having a huge “fish fry” when his children came home from college for the weekends. When he was a Senior Adult, he was very active at gardening at the Senior Gardens by Shelby Farms. He enjoyed showing off his beautiful tomatoes and sharing any vegetables with anyone who stopped by his garden.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Leawood Baptist Church, 3638 Macon Road, Memphis. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time,
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Memphis Union Mission, St. Jude Research, or Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
