We gather here to remember James Strange Jr. He was born in Lake Village, Arkansas, and later moved to Detroit, Michigan, with his parents, James Strange Sr. and Doris Strange. During his childhood, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and road trips with his family. He also had a fondness for playing marbles and chess. At Northwestern High School, he was involved in the chess club, debate club, and the ROTC.
James graduated from high school in June of 1960, He joined the Air Force, serving as a military police Officer for four years. After his military service, he furthered his education and education at E.I.T. Electronics School, R.E.T.S. Electronic School, Wayne County Community College, and Siena Heights College. He became a member of Jehovah's Witnesses and worked as a Supervisor of maintenance operations at the United States Post Office. He retired from the bulk mail center in Memphis in 2005.
James leaves behind his wife, Iris Strange, and his children, James Strange III (Andrea), Timothy Strange, and Doris Strange. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Alana, and his siblings, Henry, Samuel, Gable, and Maudine. He is preceded in death by his siblings Van, Dixie, Brenda, David, and Shelby, as well as his stepson, Dwight, and his grandson, Trevon.
A visitation for James will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave, Memphis, TN 38122. A memorial service will occur Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3893 New Brownsville Rd, Memphis, TN 38135.
