Jean Marie Heil (born Steltjes) died on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Jean was born in St. Louis, Missouri and she and her husband, John Heil, moved to Memphis, TN in 1961. She was very active in her daughters’ school at St. Joseph’s and later Bishop Byrne High School. She was an avid reader and gardener and her yard was often recognized for being the “Yard of the Month” in her neighborhood. She and John loved to travel and were able to take trips to Russia and China. She adored her granddaughters and was very proud of the women they have become.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Heil, and her parents, Martha and Henry Steltjes. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Dr. Barbara Casper (Charles) of Louisville, KY, Deborah Graves (Michael) of Little Rock Arkansas and Lisa McGinnis (James) of Memphis, TN. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Steltjes (Geri) of Nashville, TN and two sisters, Carole Walesky (John) and Kathy Majewski (Tom ) of St. Louis, Mo. Her granddaughters, Megan McGinnis (Memphis), Laura Knittle (Chicago), Katie McGinnis(Jackie, Memphis) and Dr. Emily Camp (David, Nashville) will cherish the memory of their grandmother’s sense of humor and loving hugs. Jean is also survived by two great grandchildren, Nathan and Charley.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 15 from 5-7 pm at Memphis Funeral Home at 5599 Poplar Avenue and a funeral mass will be held at St. Louis Church on Saturday, June 16 at 11:15. Burial will be in West Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery at a later date
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in Jean’s name.
