

Jean L. Maier, 83, of Memphis, passed away January 5, 2012 after long term health problems. A beloved teacher at Hutchison School, Jean taught second and third grades. She often played the piano for the Lower School Chapel. She was loved by students, parents, and staff. Letters, essays and poems were written about Jean by her students, citing her as a favorite teacher who influenced their lives. Jean was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was a member of Positive Christian Singles and the Kingswood Sunday School Class. She was also a member of United Methodist Womens Circle, First Generation Singers, Baptism Guild and various volunteer church activities. Jean was an active member in the Emmaus Community. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Belva Lawrence and her brother, Reverend Roy Lawrence, her husband of 25 years, Dr. Frank Maier, Jr., son, Frank B. Maier, III and husband Bill Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Maier Sill (John), grandchildren, Drew Sill (Kristi) and Jeanne Sill, daughter-in-law, Virginia Maier and her son, Richard McCullar and five great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends who loved her dearly. Visitation will be from 11-12 Monday, January 9, at Christ United Methodist Church in the Dunnam Parlor with the funeral service to follow at 12 p.m. in the Wilson Chapel at Christ United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen, MS at 4 p.m. The family requests memorials be made to Christ United Methodist Church Music Ministry, 4488 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38117.
