Jeannie Lee King

Jeannie L. King, 56, passed away on May 16, 2011 at Methodist University Hospital. Jeannie was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend to many people. At the time of her death, she was serving as Executive Administrative Assistant to Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Jeannie was born October 19, 1954 in Corona, California. She leaves her husband of 38 years, James. H. King, Jr., of Memphis along with two daughters, Alicia McLeod of Memphis and Brandy Frye (husband Paul), of Bartlett.

She also leaves her mother, Doris J. Mann of Memphis; a sister, Tanya Pressgrove of Memphis; two brothers, Davey Mann (wife Teresa) of Bartlett and Billy Mann, Jr., of Memphis and three grandchildren, Brianna, Brandon and Cameron. She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Mann, Sr.

Before serving as Executive Administrative Assistant to Mayor Luttrell, Jeannie held executive secretary positions at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, having begun her career with the Sheriff’s Office on September 1, 1986. She was promoted to Executive Assistant to former Shelby County Sheriff A. C. Gilless, Jr. and served as Mayor Luttrell’s Executive Assistant during his eight years as Shelby County Sheriff.

In a letter to all Shelby County Government employees, Mayor Luttrell praised Jeannie for her commitment to serve others. “My wife Pat and I personally mourn her passing as a friend, colleague and professional. Jeannie was known as a public servant who focused on responsiveness and honesty in government/citizen relationships. She truly was made for public service and her presence will be missed by all who came in contact with her,” said Mayor Luttrell.

Besides her daily duties with Mayor Luttrell, Jeannie loved spending time with her family, knitting, reading, playing games on the computer and watching movies.

Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens-Poplar Chapel, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Thursday, May 19, from 5-8 p.m. The funeral will be Friday, May 20, 2 p.m., at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens-Poplar Chapel, with the interment following at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway.
