Jerry Wayne Morris, Sr., 71, passed away from a brief illness at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN, on November 12, 2020. He was born in Memphis, TN, July 11, 1949, to Roy Lee Morris and Louise Cisco Morris. Jerry attended and graduated from Treadwell High School in 1968 and joined the Navy, serving on the USS Independence. Later, he worked until retirement for Shelby County Schools.
Jerry was an avid and dedicated Boy Scout adult leader when his son became active, becoming a trader of Boy Scout items for many years. He participated in coin collecting, ancestry research, and was active in his high school reunion activities. Jerry attended Allendale United Methodist church in Bartlett, TN, for many years.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Vicky, and his parents, Jerry is survived by his wife, Lana Hampton Morris; one son, Jerry Morris, Jr. (Alena) of Murfreesboro, TN; sisters, Fannie Blackman of Bartlett, TN and Peggy Triplett (Bert Triplett II) of Atoka, TN; brother, Michael Morris (Christy) of Bartlett, TN; and, step-daughter, Tamara Wright of Memphis, TN. Jerry also leaves his cherished companion, his dachshund Maddie.
Rev. Mike Morris will conduct a graveside service at Memphis Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN, on Tuesday, November 17 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will occur prior to the service from 11 AM to 12:30 PM at Family Funeral Care on 4925 Summer Avenue, Memphis, TN. Honorary Pall Bearers will be John Casper, Scott Harrison, Dwight Kenner, Scott Lance, John Platt, and Chuck Schadrack.
