James (Jim) Clancy , beloved father, and Grandpa died peacefully on Monday March 15, 2021, at his home at the Villages of Germantown. Visitation will be held at the Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Germantown, TN., starting at 9:30 am until 10:15 am on Saturday March 27, 2021, followed by the rosary and a memorial Mass starting at 10:30.
Jim was born in Royal Oak, Michigan the son of Frank and Philomena (Minnie) Clancy. Jim graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Engineering and served his nation in the US Navy during WW2, being honorably discharged in 1945. While at the University of Iowa, Jim meet Jackye and after her graduation in 1949, married in 1950. Jim and Jackye enjoyed traveling and moved around the Midwest with Jim’s long-term employer of 35 years, General Electric. They lived in various towns and states before returning to the Detroit area, where they settled down and had two children: Steven and Patricia. After several additional moves, and after Jackye’s passing in 2004, Jim followed Steve and wife Robin to Tennessee and became a resident of the Village of Germantown in 2008. Jim found this to be his final home, surrounded by wonderful people and a vibrant community.
Jim was well read and loved his books and frequent visits to the library, along with taking in a performance or two at the GPAC with his dear friend Ellie. He loved to travel and being the son of an Irish immigrant, loved to tell a story or two. Jim volunteered over 10 years for Hospice and participated in many functions at the Village. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and in his day, attended many functions of his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his son Steven (Steve), wife Robin, and daughter Patricia (Patty); along with 4 grandchildren: Ian Clancy, wife Marissa, Caitlin Willer (Clancy) ,husband Ryan, Patrick and Moira Clancy. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Minnie Clancy, along with his older brother Paul Clancy.
The family wished to extend a sincere thank you to the residents and staff of the Villages of Germantown, where Jim truly was at home. To his very dear friend Ellie, and all who knew Jim and made him part of your lives.
The viewing will be from 9:30 am-10:15 am Saturday March 27th at the chapel at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8151 Poplar Ave., Germantown, TN. Followed by a rosary prayer service from 10:15- 10:30 am and a memorial Mass immediately afterwards.
