With deep love we announce the passing of Joanne Marie Dalton on February 22, 2026. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents Ann Marie Fitzmorris Dalton and John Robert Dalton Jr. Joanne is survived by her brother Kenny Dalton (Karen) and her nieces Becky Davidson (Jason), Krissy Ferguson (Scott) and Sarah Katherine Dalton, as well as great nieces Brianna Davidson, Mackenzie Davidson, Lena Ferguson and Sadie Ferguson. Joanne also leaves a cousin, Alicia Dino Fitzhugh, who was like a sister.
Joanne was a graduate of Memphis Catholic High School and an alumna of Christian Brothers University and the University of Memphis. In her 33 year career as an educator and administrator Joanne served as guidance counselor and assistant principal. Joanne taught at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School, Woodstock Elementary and Shadowlawn Middle School. She was a counselor at Millington Middle School where she initiated the Peer Mediation and Conflict Resolution Program in Shelby County Schools for which she trained students and faculty throughout the state of Tennessee. Joanne retired as an assistant principal from Oak Elementary in Bartlett. Each of her students held a special place in her heart.
Services will be Monday March 9, 2026 at Memphis Funeral Home 5599 Poplar Ave. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm followed by a service at 1:00 pm. There will be a short graveside service at Calvary Cemetery 1663 Elvis Presley Blvd.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lonestar Diabetic Alert Dogs of Chattanooga Tennessee or the charity of choice.
