John Bruce Avent, age 68, of Memphis, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014. He was born June 2, 1945 in Memphis to the late Raymond B. Avent and Jewell Bradsher Avent. He was in the U.S. Marine Reserves. Mr. Avent was retired from Memphis Light Gas & Water after 25 years of service, and later worked in estate sales auctions for 24 years. He was a member of New Church Memphis (Leaclair Baptist) for 50 years. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, DeNorris Wolfe Avent; 2 sons, Raymond Avent, and Christopher Avent (Tavia); his brother, Michael Wayne Avent (Cheryl); 2 grandchildren, Austin and Sydney Avent.
