in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 98. He was born May 31, 1924, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to John B. Beringer, Sr. and Lillian Heckmann Beringer. He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Smithson, on April 25, 1954, in Punta Coromoto, Venezuela, South America.
A graduate of New Kensington High School in 1942, Jack joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943, and was stationed in Nome, Alaska. In 1952, he graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Jack was hired after graduation by Creole Petroleum to begin the construction of the man-made oil reservoirs in Venezuela. It was there that he met his beautiful wife, Pat, and they married in 1954. Their 5 children were born in Venezuela. In 1965, Jack and Pat moved their young family to Austin, Texas, and then in 1968 to Memphis, Tennessee, where he continued his work as a civil engineer for United Construction Company. In 1970, Jack started his own business, Circle Construction Company, and enjoyed a great career until his retirement in 1990.
After Jack’s retirement, he spent many years traveling the country with Pat and visiting their friends and family all over the United States. They had thousands of stories to tell about their exciting adventures and all the unique places they stayed and the wonderful people they met. After a rafting trip down the Colorado River, they decided to stay closer to home and concentrate on family, gardening and golf. Those were the days!!
Jack is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Beringer, of Memphis, TN; Son, John Paul Beringer (Renee) of Warner Robbins, Ga; Daughters Jan Marie White of Little Rock, AR, Carol Ann Hodes (Dan Meador) of Memphis, TN, Cheri Elizabeth Hanson (Richard) of Mountain Home, AR and Sandra Lynn Beringer of Salisbury, ME; Grandchildren, Brandon Beringer, Mickey White (Bonnie), Keri White Hall (Shane), Taylor Hodes, Crista Hodes Anderson (Alex), Blair Hanson Keller (Kris), JaneAnn Hanson Jones (Nathan), Jacob Hanson (Kristina); Great-Grandchildren Ethan Hall, Emma Hall, Bradford Keller, Anna Kathryn Keller, Sawyer Keller, Jackson Jones, Wyatt Jones, Shea Jones, Kora Hanson and Margo Hanson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings; Catherine Hensel, Irene Phelps, Cecilia Bonderud, Alice Kennedy, Margaret Dannemiller and Anna Marie Clark.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
