John Michael Bryson Sr., 65, passed away unexpectedly on September 8, 2026, following a sudden battle with acute leukemia. His illness came on rapidly, and he passed just two weeks after falling sick. His family wishes for his sudden passing to serve as a poignant reminder to everyone: treat people as though it is the last time you will ever see them, because none of us are promised tomorrow.
Born on January 19, 1961, John was the beloved son of Charlotte Best and the late Eddie Bryson. Answering the call to serve his country, John joined the United States Army at the age of 18, where he earned his HVAC license. Following his military service, he worked as a dedicated HVAC technician for many years before becoming disabled.
At age 25, he married the love of his life, Mary Ledbetter, and was blessed with his daughter, Bridgette Lynn Varner. Family was central to John's world, and at age 45, he was blessed with his daughter, Anna. Later in life, at age 65, John had the wonderful joy of meeting his half-sister whom he had never known, Holly Guest.
John is survived by his children, Anna Michelle Tripp-Bryson, Bridgette Lynn Varner, and son-in-law James Graham, all of Harrison; his stepson, Gregory Lilly, and Gregory's daughter, Caitlyn Mixon Lilly; his sisters, Holly Guest and Jennifer Forester; his cherished grandson, Jesse Varner; his nephews, Aaron Newsom and Zack Newsom; and his loyal, loving dog, Dupree.
He is also survived by his lifelong best friend, Brian Ethridge—whom John spoke of constantly and cherished deeply—and Brian's son, Luke Ethridge. Beyond his family, John leaves behind countless friends who deeply loved and adored him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ledbetter of Memphis; his father, Eddie Bryson; his mother Charlotte Best, and his brothers, Jeffrey Forester and David Bryson.
John’s legacy of love, service, and devotion to family and friends will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
