John "Joe" Hosey, 78, of Augusta, Georgia, formerly of Memphis, Tennessee, entered into rest on January 10, 2026. A man whose life was defined by his unwavering faith and his gift for placing others' needs above his own, Joe touched countless lives through his ministry of quiet service and compassionate presence.
Born in Memphis on November 16, 1947, to the late James and Annie Hosey, Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Hosey; his sister, Sara Johns; and his brother, James I. Hosey, Jr.
He leaves behind a legacy of love in his children, John Hosey, Jr. (Megan), Teresa Anglin, Janie Fesmire, and Lee Williams; his grandchildren, Amber Quinn (Jonathan), Britanie Allred (Will), Zachary Hosey, Elizabeth Hosey, Alekzander Hosey, Grace Jaugstetter, Adam Jaugstetter, Aaron Williams, and Audrey Williams; and six great-grandchildren who will carry forward his example of faithful service.
Joe's deep knowledge of Scripture was not merely academic—it was the wellspring from which flowed his life of service. Until his final days, he continued working in his church, providing assistance to those in need. His faith was not something he simply professed on Sundays; it was woven into the very fabric of who he was, evident in every act of kindness, every word of comfort, and every moment spent in service to others.
For fifteen years, Joe served as a funeral director, bringing temperance, understanding, stoicism, and love to families navigating their darkest hours. He was proud to be the first manager of Family Funeral Care when it opened in 1996, a role that united his professional expertise with his deeper calling to comfort the grieving. In this sacred work, Joe's gift for understanding others' needs found its fullest expression—he didn't simply perform a service, but walked alongside families with genuine compassion and grace. Earlier in his career, he worked in the movie theater business, a chapter of his life he often recalled with fondness.
In his personal time, Joe found joy in traveling, with the Caribbean holding a special place in his heart. These journeys refreshed his spirit and gave him stories to share with those he loved.
Joe will be remembered for his devotion to his faith and his commitment to helping those in need. Throughout his life, he gave generously of his time, wisdom, and compassion to his family, his church, and his community.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19, at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave., Memphis, Tennessee. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Rd., Memphis, Tennessee.
